OnePlus and Realme to drop OxygenOS and Realme UI

The illusion of software diversity within the BBK Electronics umbrella is officially coming to an end. In a major strategic shift, both OnePlus and Realme have announced the permanent retirement of their respective custom Android skins, OxygenOS and Realme UI.

Going forward, eligible smartphones from both brands will transition directly to Oppo's ColorOS ecosystem. This transition is set to begin with the upcoming ColorOS 17 update, which will be built on top of Android 17.

Streamlining the BBK Software Ecosystem

For years, BBK Electronics has maintained separate software identities for its various mobile brands to appeal to different market segments. OnePlus users valued the clean, near-stock aesthetic of OxygenOS, while Realme UI offered highly customizable features tailored to budget-conscious and youth demographics.

However, the underlying codebases of these operating systems have increasingly converged over the years. This latest decision formalizes the unification, eliminating the distinct software divisions in favor of a single, consolidated platform under the ColorOS banner.

While this move simplifies software development and update deployment for the parent company, it marks the end of an era for enthusiasts who favored the unique software experiences previously offered by OnePlus and Realme. Eligible devices from both lineups will be migrated to ColorOS 17 as the Android 17 rollout begins.
